43 You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor, and you shall have hatred for your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you: Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. And pray for those who persecute and slander you. 45 In this way, you shall be sons of your Father, who is in heaven. He causes his sun to rise upon the good and the bad, and he causes it to rain upon the just and the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward will you have? Do not even tax collectors behave this way? 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what more have you done? Do not even the pagans behave this way? 48 Therefore, be perfect, even as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

27 But I say to you who are listening: Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. 28 Bless those who curse you, and pray for those who slander you. 32 And if you love those who love you, what credit is due to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you will do good to those who do good to you, what credit is due to you? Indeed, even sinners behave this way. 34 And if you will loan to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is due to you? For even sinners lend to sinners, in order to receive the same in return. 35 So truly, love your enemies. Do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return. And then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and to the wicked. 36 Therefore, be merciful, just as your Father is also merciful.
